Examination Requirement:

To earn the PMI-PMOCP designation, participants must have: 

  • Completed a minimum of a secondary degree (high school diploma or global equivalent) 
  • Accumulated at least 3 years (36 months) of project-related experience within the last 8 years, or hold an active PMP® certification in good standing 
  • Completed a minimum of 10 hours of professional development focused on PMO-related education or training 
  • Agreed to abide by the PMI Code of Conduct and certification terms and conditions 
  • Successfully passed the PMI-PMOCP examination 

Exam Format 

  • 120 multiple-choice questions 
  • Duration: 165 minutes (2 hours, 45 minutes) 
  • Offered in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese 
  • Available via online proctored exam or at authorized Pearson VUE test centers 

Certification Validity 

The PMI-PMOCP certification is valid for three (3) years.
To maintain the credential, you must earn a minimum of 30 Professional Development Units (PDUs) within each 3-year cycle.

  • How and when are exams offered?

    All exams are offered via remote online proctoring or at authorized Pearson VUE test centers. Candidates can schedule their preferred exam date after application approval. 

  • How long will it take to prepare for the examination?

    • Preparation time depends on experience level. 
    • Experienced PMO or project managers: approximately 4–6 weeks of study. 
    • Newer professionals: approximately 8–10 weeks with full module review and practice tests. 
  • Is the PMI-PMOCP certification globally recognized?

    Yes. The PMI-PMOCP is recognized worldwide as a benchmark credential for PMO leaders, managers, and consultants. 

  • What is the passing score for the PMI-PMOCP exam?

    PMI does not disclose a fixed passing score. Competency is determined through psychometric analysis across all domains. 

  • How long is the certification valid?

    • Valid for three (3) years. 
    • Renewal requires 30 Professional Development Units (PDUs) earned during each 3-year cycle. 
  • Can I retake the exam if I don’t pass on the first attempt?

    • Yes. Candidates are allowed up to three (3) attempts within a one-year eligibility period. 
    • A reduced exam rewrite fee applies.
